The Coalition of Kaiser Permanente Unions is deeply saddened by the sudden passing of KP Chairman and CEO Bernard Tyson this weekend.

Bernard J. Tyson

Throughout his 30-year career with Kaiser Permanente, Tyson was a bold and outspoken advocate for diversity, racial justice, and affordable, accessible health care.

During his six-year tenure as CEO, Tyson led the rollout of some of the Labor Management Partnership’s signature achievements, including unit-based teams, important worker development initiatives, and the growth of the Kaiser Permanente workforce to more than 230,000 employees nationwide. The difficulties of the past few years do not diminish our appreciation for Bernard Tyson’s work and leadership.

“We honor Bernard for his great contributions to Kaiser Permanente and all its employees, and want to express our full confidence in Greg Adams to carry on this legacy and the important work of the Labor Management Partnership,” said Coalition Executive Director Walter Allen.

We join all Kaiser Permanente workers, the healthcare industry, and our communities in mourning his passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with Bernard’s family.
